View Full Version : Competition Ideas ?

Hey all,
Some of you may of noticed the sponsors page (http://www.pulsar.org.au/sponsors.php) that is now hanging off the main menu.. well, in addition to all of those great sponsors (with more comming soon) we've been offered a rather substantial prize to give away to members of the group.. We're not going to tell you what or from who the prize is yet, suffice to say that is a visual (as apposed to performance) mod for your car.
What we need from you guys are some ideas on how we can run a competition to give away this prize.
The leading idea so far has been that to enter..
* you must be a member of the forums/e-group with pics of your car with a pulsar.org.au sticker on it uploaded to the members section of the website.
* you must then write in around 50 words why you reckon you're most deserving of this prize.
We're open to almost any other idea on how to select a winner, and it dosn't have to be at random (ie. it can be the best entry).
The only two things you really need to work around are a photo of the entrants car with a sticker visible on the car, and at least one of those photos in the member profile section (we can have photos scanned entrants if required).
So, hit us with some ideas please.. the more the better! Perhaps there will be a prize for the person who comes up with the winning idea?

pffft, guys.. i was asking for competition ideas, not just "yeah, i'll enter".. please be creative and help us come up with something that'll attract interesting applications but be simple to run.
fahootie; the prize is more substantial than fuzzy dice.
xlnsss, try reading this (http://forum.pulsar.org.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1289) thread if you're having problems with the menu.. and yes, the sponsors page exists.. perhaps you could try following this (http://www.pulsar.org.au/sponsors.php) link to it..

hrmm take the ricest photo of another car, not just download of the net ?
depends what the prize is really . . maybe base the competition around that . .
like you say write a paragraph about why you should win it . .
we don't want to make it just an enter thing do we . . cause that's too easy . .
best photoshop mod of your own car ?
anyone else ??

Competition idea (you asked for ideas, no matter how lame)
A photo taken of your Pulsar (with sticker showing) in the most EXTREME location in Australia
i.e. Ayers Rock, Sydney Opera House Front steps, St Kilda Pier, Moggill ferry?!...some imagination would be needed of course. Like the old JJJ competition.
maybe extreme is the wrong word.....

Not alot of people have photoshop so that wouldnt help! umm...
maybe someone has like a valid reason like say " they work full time, have no money for major or even minnor mods, look after a family! they are members for sure and have to have substantial amount of posts! these are some ideas dont know how good they are? maybe someone who can come up with the wackiest story ever?!
my 2cents
cheers:thumbsup:

What about this guys?
A competition to design a funky new logo for the Pulsar Group of Australia. It can then be used on the website, promotional material, shirts etc.
The current logo is OK, but nothing special.
We need something that's :rockin:
And it doesn't have to be with photoshop or anything, entries can be scanned or photographed drawings or whatever.
What do people think?
fiendish_cs
24th July 2002, 11:41 AM
I think the idea with taking a picture of your car in an odd location is a good one, or it could be altered to umm i dunno, best looking picture, or something like that. or car with the most naked chicks on it he he he he :silly:
dan
24th July 2002, 12:28 PM
the logo design and photoshop contests really limit the number of entries that have a real chance of winning, as there are only a few members that are really good at it..
the photo of your car in a crazy location is a good one tho.

I like the idea of "sss in weirdest location" - the only problem with this is that we'd have to be able to prove that it's a real photo and not a photoshopped photo.
It's a bit like the Fast Fours sticker competition thing they had/have going, or like Crash Kings...
I reckon with a bit of thought, we could come up with some really crazy photo locations; the problem I see is actually getting the car to some of the locations... Illegal places should be bonuses, and I don't mean something as simple as in a no-parking zone... I mean like in the middle of Stadium Australia or something like that (just try it and see what happens :) ).

I think we might have to make it some kind of random draw, otherwise its going to favour people that have access to digital cameras/photoshop/etc.
But still, keep the ideas coming guys

everyone has access to a camera, they could just snail mail 'em to either of you guys for scanning....
and make some rule about no Photoshop (yes, i know that would be hard to enforce)
fiendish_cs
25th July 2002, 10:02 AM
in regards to the photo ones and the worries about photoshop editting why send them in digitally, make it so you have to send a proper photo by snail mail to a certain address?? that way it cant be edited and then who ever is responsible for the comp can scan them and upload them to the site??
Fahootie
25th July 2002, 10:15 AM
if you're suggesting sending in prints, I can photoshop any digital image i.e. make it look like I'm driving my pulsar on top of the Opera House or whatever, then take the image on a floppy to my local kodak shop and have them produce a print for about a buck.
I still think the best suggestion would be a contest for the Pulsar that can fit the most naked chicks inside, I reckon about 20 would win it for ya, and I'm sure it would be a very popular contest...naked rice.

25th July 2002, 10:32 AM
The idea about having 10 or so obscure pictures of Pulsar parts/panels etc, and having to guess what model they are from is pretty good. Shows knowledge of Pulsars etc.
...or just the naked chics stuffed into your Pulsar would be good too...
dan
25th July 2002, 08:36 PM
i reckon that unless it was ben80y you'd be able to tell (eventually) if the image was modified or not :)
atm i am personally leaning towards either the part idea or the photo-in-strangest-place idea.
perhaps as a part of the condition you've gotta get a photo of your car with the prize in the same place? or at least close to? (for instance, outside stadium australia this time?)
dan
25th July 2002, 09:07 PM
shan made a good point in his now-edited post that perhaps we should require entrants provide sufficient proof that the image is in fact real, and not edited.
proof can be supplied by having a large number of photos (more than 6) and have you interacting in the environment in a way that is hard to emulate on a computer.

How about a design a business card comp so we can finally have something to give to pulsar owners we meet on the street.
dan
26th July 2002, 12:56 PM
nah, it's not really computer nerdy renee :)
it's either going to be:
* write in 50 words or less why you deserve it
* take several pictures of your car in a most obscure place
* correctly identify 10 photos of parts
dosnt really involve computers, only the third one advantages people who know the mechanics of their car..

What about designing a Membership Card with like the most out there pulsar as a thumbprint and some mad graphics which can be either photos or hand drawn?! this would be good as membership cards will help us verify that we are members to some of our sponsors ie fibre motive, incar and any others i have happened to leave anyone out!

I dig the Naked Chicks idea, the only problem is how do oyu get that many willing chicks to do it? I really think the car in the Most Obscure locaiton would be mad, it would really involve cunning and stealth to get you car into a Zany location, Take 6 Photos to prove its not photoshopped and not get arrested. I think thats a really good idea.
PS? Does it have to be the Pulsar cos i got a Mad Photo of my old jackaroo Half way over a Concrete Fence hanging over a CLiff with it ass sticking out of some Bushes.

I like the idea about the membership cards, that would come in handy for sponsors who need to view the card for any discounts etc...
dan

yeah, membership cards are on the to-do list.. if anyone wants to make one up we're happy to publisize it on the website.
i dont think they'll be a part of the competition tho.. simply because we dont want to give an advantage to people with better graphic design skills.

how about the photo must be a print and if you win you must provide the negatives as proof.

"nah this wouldn't be a good idea re chicks. cause we have come across a few gay members you know who you are and i have logs of the chat channel when you have been showing off your gay activity. (im talking from the irc chat experience here)"
Gay guys usually have heaps of female friends, so that would put them at an advantage.
how about the photo must be a print and if you win you must provide the negatives as proof.
fark dat, I'm not paying for processing when I paid $$$ for a digital camera...I think multiple shots from different angles is the go ( minimum of 6 ???)

booba is that sarcasm? ouch.
i will fork out for processing if thats what it takes, and yes it is expensive compared to $0 cost for downloading to my PC
dan
30th July 2002, 01:29 PM
nah, digital photos would be ok.. we'll probably set a minimum resolution limit tho.. and you're going to have to have a high number of photos (probably more from digicams) to prove that the images are unedited (this includes just touching it up.. dont even blank out your number plate : it can be removed later).
unsure about specifics yet.. anyone got any other ideas before we settle on a winning idea?
Rex
30th July 2002, 11:17 PM
why dont u have some kind of raffle where you put every1 who has posted more than 5 posts into a barrel and draw them out. That would give everyone a fair chance.
FlameBoy
31st July 2002, 06:45 AM
Rex i dont like that idea...only because some person who wouldnt even be interested in the prize could win...
Reminds me of a story (Non computer ppl ignore) : I was at a lan and the main prize was an ATI Radeon 8500 (This was a while ago...the card was crash hot just released) anyway it was a raffle and this 15 yr old won it...came out to the microphone and didnt know what it was, nor wat it did. It was shocking.

Ahhh... I think it would be a little different here... We're all here cause we love, own or would like to own a pulsar of some description. If the prize has something to do with a mod for your baby then I think it would be appreciated by all.
I like your idea Clay...

Just a thought, but maybe we could have a comp where we rice up our cars with cardboard spoilers and hubcaps and basically heaps off spaggy stuff, and take a pic. It's fun, other people get a laugh out of it, and you may even be able to start up a new section on pulsar.org.au with the pics in it!
