I want to do the DET engine swap on my car, but i have some questions about insurance you turbo guys might be able to help me out with.

I'm with NRMA at the moment for around $2000 a year, the only place i can find that will insure me with the turbo listed as a mod is justcars but they want $4500 a year... too much.

If i turbo my car and DON'T tell NRMA about it, is there any way i can get away with it? like if i have an accident where the car has to be inspected, i take it to my mechanic first and swap the engine back, or remove all the turbo parts to make it look N/A etc...

The thing is my car's still under a bank loan and must have insurance for the term of the loan... so what's your opinions?

risky, dodgy...and all those other words...

isn't there some other way of getting around it, like insuring in someone elses name

dude theres no point in insuring a car which you "may" get your money for if its in an accident. Kinda defeats the purpose. I'm in the same position as you with the bank loan situation having to have it insured. I have heard however that after the 1st year they wont ask if it is still insured... Have you had the car for a year yet? If not maybe wait and see what happens after a year

Yeh i've had it for almost two years

last year i was asked to fax through proof of insurance or they would recall the loan (ie... make you pay it all back straight away)

i think youre best bet would be to go through a decent insurance broker and they will get back to you with the best price.

got a 30% NCB so it shouldn't be that bad, anything less than $3000 would be acceptable i think

knowing my luck i'll be knocked back by my driving history, 1 accident two years ago and 3 speeding fines over the last year, not that bad, but insurance companies don't like it.

no, must pay all up front

but dude, you can pull out of your insurance at any time and they will refund the value left.

Like if you got 6 months to go, and pull out, you get half your premium refunded.

if you are under 25 at ammi they dont let you do any performance enhancing mods. ie exhurst, that is what they told me im 19. im at racv at the moment third party fire and theft with mods, but i have to change coz u are only alowed 1 3rd of the cars value in mods. im way over that. what ever you do get it in writing coz each time i ring up they say something differant
