Was a passenger today when i saw a pulsar that looked like a GTI-R. After getting closer i notice no vented bonnet just plain, no spoilers etc etc but it was a 2 door GTI. What are the main differences between this model and the GTI-R and what powerplant do these cars use.
curios
btw: are they common in OZ cause thats the first one i ever seen.

afaik there is a few GTi owners over in NZ...
I'm pretty sure they are only FWD and have an SR18DE engine.. thats about all I know tho..

i would agree with splash that they would have SR18DE engines and no AWD

I didn't know there was ever a SR18DE motor.
I don't think they are turbo and definite FWD.... None of the body kit etc that goes along with the GTiR...
They are like the pulsar lx in the N15 range in OZ..... 1.6L I think....which is a ga16de motor might be ca18de not sure...

The GTi shaped Pulsar in Japan come out with a few different variations both in enginge configuration and drivetrain,
For example :
GA15 DS (carby) 4WD Auto
GA16DE
GA13 DS (carby)
SR18DE
I have a few pic's but I don't know how to post them

Hey guys,
Just to clarify a couple of things,
Main differences between a GTiR and a GTi are Engine, Drive Train and Body Kit.
SR20DET vs. SR18DE, 4WD vs. 2wd LSD and Kit wise Rear Wing, Bonnet, Front Bumper and Plastic Flares on Wheel arches.
The GTi only came out with an SR18DE, basically the same as the SR20DE, but runs higher compresion.
The Pulsars with the GA16....etc are differently badged, (as shown in the pics) - V1, X1, X1R etc and are all much lower spec'd than the GTi & GTiR
There are three different body shapes for these that I know of, a hatch, a sedan and the well know lift back.
Hope this helps,
Later,
Aaron

i have seen one on these up close. They are an sr20 non turbo front wheel drive. Better running gear than any aus delivered sss especially in the gear box ratio's and clutch etc. I almost bought this thing but i didnt want hassles of insurance and i like four doors.

A guy I know in NZ had one with SR18DE and as far as I'm aware they have the LSD gearbox we are all chasing! Please correct me if I'm wrong?

Your saying they have a front LSD... shit I'll take one of them... the GTiR's only have an open front diff....Viscus centre and rear LSD....

The GTi has got an SR18DE with a viscous LSD.
This is where we get the LSD's gearboxes we import for the N14 Pulsar's and we import as many as we can.

We have 2 left at the moment and 1 on hold for Adrian at Mad Enhancements in Perth. We also have one waiting in Japan and hopefully more soon but I just have to find the driveshafts for the ones here in Adelaide, someone has moved them...lol
P.S. Just to be clear on this point I did not post the last message to try and sell anything...I have avoided all post with questions like * do you know who sells them* or * where can I get some* and always will unless specifically asked.

For the N14 LSD gearbox (viscous) and driveshafts/driveshaft for Pulsar Group of Australia members $950 which I think is a pretty good price.

There are tonnes of N14 Jap[ Spec GTi and few of 2 Door N15 GTi in NZ.... I got one of them
Besides there are some car dealers are selling VZR, Autech Version and I can see some of them are running on da street already!!!
My one is running on SR18DE.....
The Autech version is on SR20DE or VE which both have 175hp.

Hey Counterman
So basically this Lsd gearbox will mate up no probs to the sr20de and det engines. Okay got that so far. Now for that price you mentioned $950 does this include the drive shaft?
Now the driveshaft.. Is there any modifications needed to the wheel with the new driveshaft or will this mate strait up?
Cheers, Steve :bounce:

Hey fungjai
Have you track tested your Gti? If so, how does the lsd perform? Traction wise?
Cheers, Steve :bounce:

Hey Counterman
Excuse the bit abt, is the driveshaft included. What id also like to know is what kind of warranty do you give with the box and shaft if its being hooked up to a sr20de. Just in case the lsd is knackered etc
Cheers, Steve :bounce:

Steve the gearbox does bolt straight up to the N14 SR20DE FWD, U12 SR20DET, U13 SR20DET engine block I still have to see about the GTiR block though and the driveshaft is supplied in the $950 cost. You get 3 months *parts only* warranty on both the driveshaft and the gearbox.
*The warranty is subject to driver abuse issues as usual.*

You got 16.1 but your GTi's an auto isn't it?
The boxes are becoming a little scarce here, you can pick one up for about NZ$600.....they are pretty tough too, my one's been holding out for 3 years now bolted up to an sr20det...and that's pushing 168kW @ wheels through it.
