Mate, best pointer I can give you is take your time. If the light goes green and your not ready to go, dont go. This will effect your reaction time, but not your over all ET. Get yourself ready, sit on the line for a couple of seconds and then go when your ready.
Revs will vary depending on how you take up the clutch, if you just dump it, it will either bog down or wheelspin, both no good. Best to ride the clutch a little, start with revs around 3000rpm, the increase revs as you bring the clutch up quickly but not fast enough to induce wheelspin.
The amount of revs you can give on the strip without wheel spinning will be alot greater than on the street, but you can still practice you slipping technique on the street, but just use higher revs on the track.
Once your off, change at what you believe to be your cars ideal shift point, get through those gears as fast as possible and see how you go. Dont expect to get anything fantastic on your first couple of runs, theres really too many things to think about and your all excited and stuff. Once you've had a couple of runs and calmed down, the your ready to start posting some serious times.
Good Luck!!!

yeah what arj_y2k said dude.

just rev it up 3000, 3500 rpm and easy the cluth out. try and minmise wheelspin as much as possible. Then just tromp it. look straight forward and just punch it. change gears as quick as possible. sometimes it ain't always nessecary to rev right out..just change where u r happy..(usually car loses power right up high in rev range)..

don't expect miracles on ur first couple of runs. go and practise somewhere in a quiet street or an industrial area on a sunday avo..thats what i do. OR JUST FIND AN EXCEL TO RACE :)

i draged my auto dunnydore...i found the best way to launch it was yank and the handbrake..have it in drive...rev it up..then just dump the handbrake and boom!!

dunno if the principle works for manuals..??

good luck.

Yeah the main thing is to have plenty of power happening. A bad launch usually involves bogging down or (if you have bad tyres) too much wheel spin.

The reality is I'd rather be nice on the car and have a normal launch.. Traffic light drags are not usually that close anyway so as long as I don't bog down to much it's fine unless it's a rex or a GTR.

If you really bog down just push the clutch back in half way till you get moving.. you'd be surprised how you can catch up.

I've found the best way is to hold it at around 5500 to 6000rpm, pop the clutch and away you go....(although I do have the benefit of 4wd though) :Flipa:

Is that a Converted ET N12?.. cool.

But if you did that in a FWD you wouldn't even leave the line lol.
It's really hard on your drivetrain too, its prolly better to slip the clutch as they're cheaper to replace that gearbox + diff + cv joints.

Sorry...forgot to mention...it's a GTiR....sorry for the confusion...

The drive train is strong enough.....(ps. I don't do it alllll the time..)
And if you knew anything about replacing the clutch on a GTiR, trust me...it's not cheap at all...

Whats with the 'et' thing
is that cause they look funny

and yeah gtirs are made for launching anyway ;)

It came about because my last car was an ET, and I got defected for harnesses....upon inspection, they reckoned the car was too low at the front, so we (GSRMAN, MrKe20 and I) got some standard struts and put them in the front, so the car actually looked like something out of the leyland brothers (4WD), hence the name 4WD~ET, and it sorta stuck.....

Haven't had a solid run yet, (slipping clutch, etc), we were keen the other night, but then the boys in blue decided to show up....so still waiting.

i did a 16.9 (133kmh) at kwinana motorplex in a near-standard n15 1.6, using regular fuel (3/4 tank) and near worn out tyres (practically 'slick').

i don't like to dump the clutch so i let it slip. i found my fastest run (did it 7 times) used a launch rev of around 5000. i previously tried launching at 3 , 3.5, and 4 but they were all above 17.

well the car should technically be about the same as the civic cxi anyway. he had premium at half tank and legal tyres, but no rev tacho. and he was doing 16.4-6 consistently throughout the night.

i'm expecting to be around the same time with more consistent levels of fuel and tyre wear.

give ur stocky car a go at legal drags! they're not too bad :p if me and my friend dare to drag using stock cars, so can u! :) plus all the 1-cyl bikes were slower than us that nite, so that's a relief that we weren't the slowest ppl on the grid. (although i was the slowest car, but that doesn't cut out the fun factor.)

mods on my car were just pod filter (no piping from front of the car, ie. just sitting open in the engine bay; and a sport muffler which i have to say doesn't do anything)
