Did any happen to see an article in Zoom magazine regarding air flow meters for SR20s?

Apparently it said how they were restrictive and it mentioned an air flow meter that was a straight swap yet a lot less restrictive.

Would be interested to find out what the replacement meter is from. Cheers.

Ditto, does any1 know what this other airflow meter is?

Has any1 looked inside the stock airflow meter? U cant fit 2 fingers thru the hole... dodgy.

Rex a person cant fit two fingers through many holes...doesnt mean theyre not good ;)

Nah on another note im interested in this too...always after some wider holes...

LOL what r u implying?
My point is, the hose connection is 2.5"~3" and the actual hole inside it is like 1".... its pov and if there is an airflow which will bolt on straightswap with a larger internal hole then I'd definitely be buying one... just gotta find out what it is!!

Yeh i know...restrictions = bad...

Anything to add to the performance of my vehicle...Maybe you can get the afm in red rex? Or at least super shiny chrome

In the same Zoom article they actually tell you which replacement AFM fits SR20.I think its from 300zx and also rb20?Dont have the magazine with me atm.If you do the swap, you will have to reprogram ECU as well since the new AFM will be calibrated differently to the original one.

What advantages will the higher flowing afm have over the stock one? And by reprogramming the ECU do you mean just disconnecting the battery so it resets?

So to re tune the ecu to the afm u need a chip yes ?

Ive heard that the restrictions of the stock AFM arent as small as they appear. You would only need to replace the AFM if you were making large HP (~200-400hp) off the stock motor.

i posted a q about this on performance forums and some1 suggested it might be the AFM from RB20DET or SR20DET... any1 know a mate with one of these engines? Check inside the AFM and see if the hole inside is any bigger... also check if the plug is similar :)

yeah i know a mate with an rb20det...

but i don't like him!!

so he probably won't asnwer my question. maybe u could just go to an import yard.. he he..

Was just in the newsagent and picked up issue 24 of Zoom. Someone wrote in asking about the replacement AFM for a SR20DET (didn't mention if it would work on the DE).

Zoom said you need to get the 80mm unit from the Z32 300ZX (turbo or N/A as it is the same unit), along with the connector kit. Wiring in is simple (so they say) however, you do need to recalibrate the ECU. On their car they had a Power FC so it was straight forward.

They didn't mention any gains however, I assume it must make some increase to be worthwhile doing.

Correct. You use the Z32 for an easy swap. You will need to have your stock ECU reprogrammed, or have an aftermarket ECU added or replacing your stock ECU.

There's a few dudes around now that are programing stock ECU's, building daughterboards for your use. I believe there might have been a post on our boards about it? Not sure from... "badbiki"? anyway.. I'm considering it. I've downloaded the rom editor.. its neat. 3D graphing and so on, easy to edit fuel and ignition maps, very easy to alter the map for larger injectors or the Z32 AFM, and so on.. remove boost cut, speed cut, blah blah. mad.

Food for thought. Although I'll probably go MOTEC next year if I get the chance :)

I'm already putting 200hp down on the ground, my AFM must be having a crap ... heh it sure does suck (get it, suck,, haha suck, haha get it)? hrmm ahem, anyway yeah...

jeez, we're 'air'ing out the bad jokes now

how much would a Motec ecu cost?

(and you could say your car has a 'fullsik motec system man, like off f&tf! )
