Well, I had a 2-inch catback on the car previously... seemed quite good, does make a power difference and just enough noise.. but it's only a quarter inch... in the real world you'd probably want to go that little bit bigger anyway.

I have a 2 1/4 Full extracted system and i got a pretty big gain out of it (6KW at the wheels) but i have a different muffler, i dont have a rice cannon, it a reverse flow, keeps a bit more back pressure in the system, i think that helps, alos got a big gain in low and high end torque. A 2 1/4 inch system is pretty big for the car, i wouldnt go much bigger unless your planning on dropping a turbo on it.
Good luck in whatever you choose!!!!

Check the archives, this topic pops up regularly. There are many factors involved in changing your exhaust. Headers, mufflers and bend types all come into it. From memory I think it was decided that the best compromise, for a 2litre with no std headers, is 2inch mandrel bent or 2.25 press bent pipe, with a 0.25 to 0.5 inch offset muffler.
After that it gets complicated :silly:

I have original manifold (they flow very well), custom made extended twin secondary engine pipes, 2 inch system with 12 inch resonator and Lukey Original muffler (straight through with common chamber in the middle). Was not recommended to fit a complete straight through muffler due to loss of too much back pressure.
This offers a good top end inprovement whilst still retaining good torque (need some back pressure to keep torque). Not that loud either. Nice deep note. No tiny sound or cackle or popping when you backoff.
Was told my many workshops that the extra noise from 2 1/4 would not be worth it due to the mininal gain you would get. Also no-one could justify the extra expense for a mandrel system on a N/A engine.
