Has anyone else every had their speedo tested to see how accurate it is?

Had mine checked by RACQ (trying to get out of a speeding ticket) and found the following:

True Speed My Speedo
80 80
90 92
100 105

Also had checked on dyno. At 140 (my speedo) it was a true speed of 129 (dyno). Seems to be getting more inaccurate the faster it gets. Has anyone had theirs checked at a faster speed?

Got the speedo to pass 200 recently ("private track" of course). Wondering what the "true" speed would be considering top speed is surpose to be 194.

Any suggestions?

It's a good question, but where do you go to get them re-calibrated?
Don't forget the tyre size (if not standard) may affect the speedo reading!:)

yeah, if u change ur tyre size, this can often effect ur speedo. r u running the standard wheels?
And i have heard that the faster u go the more inacurate it is. You have to remember at 200km/h ur speedo is very inaccurate..u could be doing 10km/h more or less depending. Also ive heard the N15 can do about 215km/h...ive only got 160..and it had plenty left in it!

I had mine checked, coz the previous owner had put 195/60/14 tyres on so I thought it would be reading lower than actual. Note that the tyres are worn down to about 70%.

Speedo Dyno
60 56
70 67
80 79
90 90
100 103
110 121
120 135

As you can see after 90 it gets worse quickly

I'm running standard size mags and tyres. Every incriment from 40 to 80 is 100% accurate. from 90 onwards it starts to go out. I guess it shouldn't really be a problem as 110klms is the fastest I can legally go anyway. If anything I guess it is to my benefit as 110 on the speedo is probably only 100-105 therefore reducing the risk of getting done for speeding.

I'm not sure if you guys know about this Victoria, but the authorities used to give a 10% allowance in the speed we do before we are caught. e.g: 69km was legal in a 60km zone, 79km was legal in a 70km zone and so on. Now these clowns have only given us 3km buffer what ever speed we are doing. e.g: 63 in a 60km zone, 73 in a 70km zone. Not much isn't it if all our speedos are not reading correctly. Personally something should be done, because I may be getting fines for nothing (according to the cars speedo). I really think that the authorities know of the problems with the speedos and are trying to make a quick buck on it. Thieving bastards!

Post your thoughts on the above comments, I would really like to know your thoughts on all this!

Mate, I'm so sorry! The funniest thing is that I didn't even realise that I made the mistake, not once but twice (must have had 69 in my mind for some reason!! Gee I wonder what it could be HA HA)

But servoiusly, from what I've heard and read, this is what Victoria Police are going to be working to!

If they are backing down from this, I havent heard of it as yet!
