so i had a few searches and read a bit of info . . 'cept a few threads are closed . . damn admin's . **slap**i mean nice admin's. .

So anyway . . got a few questions and was after some more info . .

1. Which 4-2-1 or 4-1 ?

A few people said 4-1 gave better top end, fecked your low end, this is what i thought was right, a couple said 4-1 gave better bottom end ? 4-2-1, was the best all round option. So who is right, and what is best. I knwo the standard header on the SSS is good, but hey i want to get some mods happening.

2. Size

Age old question, but i believe that 2" is the preferred for the SR20DE engine capacity, and output. But this also ties into the next question.

3. Crush or Mandrel

Crush or Mandrel doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference for the SR20DE as it is low output engine, well 105kw aint low, but not some monster turbo beast. But 2 1/4 with crush is as good as 2" wiht mandrel as the extra size will help it flow ?
Also a dodgy mandrel job would be as good as a crush bent anyway, and a decent mandrel end setup would cost $$$
So what size and what bends ?

4. Extractors

What brand and size ? are they generally 2" or seomthign ?? also which brand is better, and do the different brands etc look different. For example .. the geni's i have seen sort of come out of the block and straight down, but i have seen some actually buldge up and then go down . . what looks like what, and what is better ?

Hrmm that's all for now . .

Dude, i went for the custom made 4 to 1, 2.25 inch mandrel bent! bit pricey, but after dragging on others with different zorst systems on identicle cars, i came off the happiest and fastest. i reckon though, that u have opened a can of worms as previous posts have shown!! (and i'd go the same xtractors again!! just to prove how good they were!)

cheers dude, all the best

Go extractors with a 2.25" press bent or a 2" mandrel bent... press will be cheaper.

Also get the highflow cat and a resonator of size to suit your system, if you dont get a resonator you get that awful raspy baffling sound, I m currently running 2 resonators on my system atm because the sound is important to me.

As for extractors, some off the shelf should b ok, i paid 250 for my set, go the 4-2-1 for best drivability and even power gain across the range. I know what rix has said sounds good but the 4-2-1s seem to be the extractors of choice for most applications.

Hope this helps

Hurricanes i've heard are used on most pulsars.

Sorry, no pics, but the full system cost was $1480 (bout $750 for xtractors) not cheap, but worth it!!

yeaeh heard hurrican was good . . a guy down here got them installed for $800, so $600 for a set of them . . sounds expensive compared to $750 for custom one's . .

hrmm research research research

$800 just for extractors? what a rip!

I got my whole system done for $900 including hurricane extractors, new high-flow cat, 2" piping, resonator and rear muffler.

I had my exhaust custom made by CES racing systems (looong 4-1's that meet at the firewall, mandrel bent 2 1/4" pipework, magnaflow muffler) and had a dyno run before and after the result 9kw and a 15.76 down the quarter.
a workmate had hurricane 4-2-1's and a crappy resonator etc. installed the result is terrible sound and low power.

The problem is the primary pipes are too large and 4-2-1's are good for some torque but terrible for power. The difference in price was large with me paying about $1300 and him paying $600-$700 but if you put both cars on a hoist you would see the difference in the weld quality's, pipe bends etc.

We will be running both cars against each other again at willowbank so we will see how his exhaust fares but I am happy with what i have for my money.

Btw. both car's are n14 ti's
and if anyone out there is getting an exhaust and have any model 94- don't waste your money on a hi-flow cat they have a calsonic cat and they flooow like anything (they use them on big 200sx exhausts the just modify the ends)

hope i can help :D

We are running CES custom 4-2-1 extractors with extra long primaries to the firewall and a 2" press bent zorst on 80UNC and well.......ask most of the boys what they think??:D Andy does 15.25 in his and well 80UNC will keep him beside us the whole way standing or rolling!!

CES are the way to go but i wouldnt justify the $800 for them!!
as for whole systems geez most of you guys are talking near and over $1000!! i just lined up Hi Tech to do a N13 project we're got goin and the quote was 3" stainless dump pipe off turbo, 12" stainless flex pipe, full mandrel stainless system with either custom or Magnaflow 3" muffler, 3" stainless resonator and 3.5" cat all fitted for $1000 and thats alot harder system than a simple ext and zorst system on a SSS is!! hmm shop around a bit i think!
i wont go anywhere else but Hi Tech at southport michael knows his shit really well and they prove themselves with dyno figures too

I had my entire system replaced with 4-2-1 Hurricane extractors and 2.25" mandrel bent pipe. The entire lot cost me $960 including high flow cat, chrome tip etc.

Before I had the exhaust done, I'd noticed that it seemed to run out of puff at about 6500rpm. Since the exhaust, it continues to pull right through to the red line (and the 8000rpm cut out). Great drivability, I haven't noticed any loss in low end torque.

Only downside is it can get a bit noisy. It sounds cool at first, but if your going for a long drive, it can get a bit annoying after a couple of hours.

Haven't been down to the drag strip so I don't know how it compares with other Pulsar setup though.

u will find that a new cat is about 250 bucks..
also..
i got a mandrel 2inch bend...im planning on getting sr20ve..will this be big enuff?
and....say if i dont get the motor.....and just do a bit of head work...with extractors would it be big enuf 2inch?

The Magnaflow muffler has been great
And it looks the part too being stainless and it does a pretty good job at quietening it down too (last night the police in cannon hill didn't think so) but in my opinion it is great.
Worth the $$$

Got some shoddy pix of my stractors, muffler etc. up when i figure how to work my web space i'll post the link, hopefully tomorrow.

Ok here are some quick photos for anyone interested...
ignore the acid attack that a detailer gave the extractors and the fact that the car is dirty :D

You can see the magnaflow muffler sits really well in another n14 install i have seen the muffler is mounted low and looks poor

cheers

Geez dude they looked screwed!!! 80UNC runs CES 4-2-1 with extended primaries and they've been HPC coated and they look brand new still!!!

i would kill the detailer man!!:thwap:

hows the 4-1's? lose torque but gained top end i expect?

Yeh wasn't real happy when it happened but i couldn't/can't afford to fork out for the hpc...

It is unreal but... hmm....
