Hi Guys,

does anyone know the implications of advancing your timing on a DET?

cheers.

Yep... first you'll get a little more torque at full boost, then you'll hear a metalic knocking noise, then you'll start to see smoke, then your engine will be ****** and you'll need to rebuild it.

The five main factors contributing to detonation are boost, timing, air/fuel ratio, fuel quality and intake temperature.

You may be able to advance the timing a little, but this should be tested in a controlled environment with an electronic listning device, and you should allow realistic margin to account for varible fuel and intake temps likely to be encountered afterwards.

Detonation is the biggest cause of death for turbo engines, and it can happen in a matter of seconds so be careful.

If its on a det i wouldn't put your timing up.

Indeed.. seeing as they probably ran 100+ RON fuel with your engine in Japan, I doubt you could advance it very far at all...

On a DET its pretty much useless you would get more performance if you simply upped the boost by 1 or 2psi

Hi Spectrix....

Finally worked out that the timing for my SR20DE was done on the right ignition lead....

Do you forsee any issues running 17.5 (instaed of 15 - the manual allows a tolerance of +-2)...

Usiing BP Ultimate (plus a dash of Nulon's high octain boost....)

Check for detoniation - none at all.... (accelerate slowely from 35k in 4th up a slight rise)
