I'm currently planning, thinking, and changing my mind about a stereo for my N14.
So I'm looking for ideas. I know a few people here have decent stereos in there cars, so if you have any pics, post them up.
So far all I have installed is my Alpine headunit;

Currently trying to decide what I'm going to do about some front speakers.
Cheers,
Danny

Weird? no. Smart? yes :)
When you take the face plate off the Alpine deck, it just looks like I only have the stocko shitty tape deck in there, so a thief will just keep going to find another car with a stereo in it.
I'm trying to make my whole system as stealth as possible.
And its also pretty easy to use there. Sitting at the lights in first gear I can rest my hand on the gear knob and use the volume with my finger tips.. pretty comfortable actually..

there are a few of mine in here (http://home.pacific.net.au/~dboman/car/)
the headunit/rear parcel shelf isnt too stealth but the front splits install is pretty good.. just need to kill the rattling from the window winders and perhaps deaden up the doors.

i deadened my passenger door today.. tap it from the outside and it sounds really solid..
tap the driver's door and you can hear it vibrate and resonate..
even with the stock speakers still, the bass is a bit better with the deadening..
also, its alot quieter from outside the car.. when i'm standing on the passenger side it sounds louder coming from the driver's side..

sorta related to this topic...
does anyone know if it is safe to drill into the boot floor (around the spare tyre well)? cause i need something sturdy to mount amp racks & my sub box onto. I dont want to be drilling into any fuel tanks or anything :)
Mr N20

you should be safe man the fuel tank is under the back seat in a N14 just remember to coat the screw in silicone when screwing in so it seals the boot

umm, yeah, but i dont think you can remove it (defectable?)
and anyway, my amps are going in the little gaps on the left and right side of the boot anyway, so ill have to drill holes (i shudder at the thought of it :) )

sorry for the delayed reply.
Its not that hard.. from memory first you have to unclip the surround around the gear stick, then there are some screws holding the front of the centre bit on, once you have these undone, pull it out from the bottom and the top should unclip.
once you have this bit out, you can remove the little pocket thing thats in the dash to make way for the head unit.. it has 4 screws holding it as far as I can remember.
You can also reach up behind the stock deck and pull out the plug for the wiring loom, aswell as the antenna cord. There should be enough length to connect to your new headunit..
If you have any specific questions give me a yell and I should be able to help you.. sorry for the dodgy instructions but my memory is pretty shit :silly:

Heres My install, i got My head unit in the same Pozzie as Splash, Not to Deterr Thieves But because the Mointing around the top has been cracked due to a pretty savage rear ender. I got the sub aswell (i know it a sony, so please keep the bagging to a minimum, its gonna be a JL soon)

****, Sorry, Heres the Head unit
Splash
26th June 2002, 03:27 PM
cool..
good to see you're replacing the Sony with a JL too..
just a couple of questions.. have you made the sub box so its easy to remove? and does the floor still come up so you can get access to the spare tyre? and where have you installed your amp(s) ?

Cheers Dude, the Paint Job on the centre console was also done by yours truly :D
The Box Is real easy to get out, i had to do it the Other night when some C*#t broke into my brothers car next to mine and took his head unit, i wasnt prepared to take the chance leaving it in there. The Floor still comes up aswell and the spare tyre just Slides out, im quite happy with the way it worked out.
The amps are under the seat at the Moment whic doesnt pose a proble as yet as noone ever sits in the back (theres no ****ing room)
Im toying with the Idea of Building a False floor for the entire boot to raise enough room above the Spare tyre to put the ams in and Put a perspex window over the top as to give the idea that the Amps are mounted In the floor wihilst the spare tyre is still accessable through a Hatch i will incorporate into the floor. But only when i have a helluva lot of time will i plan on taking on a task like that. :rockin:

yup.. a false floor like that is exactly what i'm planning to do.. will hinge up just in front of the sub box.. in the same position you have your box now..

that is a hell nice install
hell neat and not shit everywhere like neons and other riced up stereo components
which makes me think....can rice apply to stereo 2? think about it...just cause sum1 puts a red/blue/whateva neon out for every1 to c does that mean they instantly do 130db?? even without subs?? man..i spent my money on the wrong shit :D
nah..thumbs up dude
