Hi again,
I have a Clarion VNET 450 4 x 50WRMS amp. I currently have two channel bridged to run a JL Audio sub, while the other 2 channels are not being used. My question is, can I somehow wire the amp so that all 4 channels can run the sub, without overloading the amp or blowing the sub. The sub is an 8 ohm, single voice coil job. Any help appreciated.

short answer - no
long answer - no, most amps can only be bridged once. I think the only way it can run like that is if the amp is 1ohm stable? cant remember. But only a handful of amps on the market can run like this.

If you wanted more power, you would be better off bridging this amp for some front speakers, and buying a more powerful 2 channel amp (but not too powerful).

or if the sub was DVC you could bridge the amp into 2 channels and use one for each voice coil..

i was gonna say that, but some 4 channel amps have differences between the 1/2 and 3/4 channels (i.e. fixed x-over points), which would murder the sub

Thanks for the info. I was looking through an old Hot4s (the one with "BROKEN" on the cover) and found a 2 channel amp test. They tested an Altec AC-2500 which put out 234 WRMS Bridged 4 ohms at 14.4V. According to the report, this is the best dollar per watt amp they've ever tested. Has anyone used one of these and are they still around? They also tested the little Jaycar AA-0432 2x100WRMS amp which wasn't far behind. Anyone used this one?
Cheers.

the best b-f-y-b amp around must be the jaycar 2x150. It bridges down to 1x450 or something crazy like that :silly:

Pretty ugly though, aren't they? Not really something you wanna put on display. Hide it under the seat and its all good.

the big-ugly-black bastards (aka Jaycar 2x150)

you could powdercoat it or anodize it if you wanted to :)

Has anyone seen the new kicker amps? theyve gone from bbq grill style amps to flat-out alien spaceship ugly
