View Full Version : To MOSFET or Not To MOSFET

I am buying a new head and i has come down to this:
I have no intention of getting amps and subs. The Pioneer tuner is DEH-P5450 and has 50w x 4 MOSFET and some other things that the JVC one doesn't (which is $55 cheaper). The JVC one (KD-SX885) has no MOSFET. Will the Pioneer be noticably different in volume and quality because of the MOSFET?
Thanks
Any replies greatly apreciated

As far as the MOSFET is, it's alright, I've got the older DEH 2350 which is 50W x4MOSFET. I was happy for a while but then eventually put and alpine amp into my system.
It'll also depend on what speakers you'll have.

Thanks for the reply...my speakers are 6.5" 2 ways (100w) and 6x9" 3 ways (120w) will MOSFET make a difference, the JVC head is nicer?
Thanks

The addition of a MOSFET chip to a head unit allows:
higher power output
higher current handling
lower distortion
better high frequency response
as compared to a head unit without MOSFET. But i think the best judge between both head units should be your ears.

I have made my decision and i am getting the jvc unit installed on wednesday :D. After going in to the car audio place and listening to cd's and talking to the bloke he said that the two units were on par for quality and volume MOSFET or no MOSFET. The JVC unit was much easier to use and looked better...so thanks for your help.
