does anyone know if the pulsar Q's or SSS's have rev limiters?

I have only ever take my car to around 7000 - 7250, am a bit cautious about taking it to the redline without knowing if there is a rev limiter in place.

I'm not sure if it is a rev limiter as such.......I think it's a fuel cut out. I reached that point by accident as well and the car just lurched for a second, coughed a bit and then went back to normal. A rev limiter would bounce up and down really quickly.
Jet skis have rev limiters. When the impellor has no water around it and you are on WOT you can hear the revs bouncing at the top end........

Snuffy:

Yeah at redline my Pulsar Q Hatch N16 did the same
like it choked and then as the revs dropped it was all good again

yes it does. its around the 7800 rpm mark on the SR20DE. stops the fun by shutting down the injectors. :bawlink:

My car is a '92 N14 Q and seems to hit rev limiter right after redline (as close as 7550rpm). I've hit this twice while doing a burnout and once in first. Happens the same time everytime.

My mate has a '94 Jap Spec SSS. He tells me his rev limiter doesn't kick in til 8200rpm, which would be better.

Whats the need to go there anyway, as our engine's make peak power around 6500rpm (unless of course you've got cams or something). Doing mods like CAI, fuel, timing and exhaust certainly wont lift the peak power point much, and certainly not over 7000rpm.

Anyway, if you wanna know, just floor it and see when it stops. (Probably wouldn't recommend doing it too often though) Rev limiters are nothing to be afraid of if you hit them, they're simple a safety device to stop the engine from over reving. If you hit it, no damage done.
Cheers.

I would check your mates tacho cause i have driven a jap spec N14 SR20DE and it still had the same 7800 rpm limit.

u ask what is the point of reving beyou 6500 Rpm... there is a very good reason.

if u get to 6500 rpm change gear, then u have droped out of the motor "power band" where if u had gone to say 7500 rpm you would have landed smack bang back in the middle with every thing u need there and then rather than waiting for the motor to wind up again.

Its a common misconception that changing at the cars peak is the way to go.....
