View Full Version : N15 SSS - Exedy OEM Clutch Ain't Grabbing Properly!

I've got an Exedy OEM clutch in my N15 SSS; the clutch has only covered about 2500km. It's not slipping, but there is an odd sensation that it's not grabbing properly. There feels to be a lot of slack in the pedal and gearshifter, and it is very hard to stall; you can jump straight off the clutch pedal on gear changes and there's barely a jerk. Plus, the throttle is less responsive than it used to be and the engine seems to take longer to rev. Do these symptoms mean anything to anyone?

Did you replace the rear main seal when the new clutch was fitted?

Clutch cable might need adjusting.

Yep, I had the rear seal replaced. When I mentioned to the mechanic that the cable may need adjusting, he said all that does is alter the pick-up/friction point; is that true?

If the cable is too tight, it won't be allowing the clutch to fully engage. that's why there is supposed to be some "slop" in the pedal travel when you first put your foot on the pedal. If there is no slop in the pedal, i.e if its firm straight away, check your adjustment as it could be too tight and not letting the clutch fully engage (like driving around with your foot on the pedal a little bit all the time.)

It's quite the opposite; there's what feels like about two inches of slop in the clutch pedal. It's bizarre, the clutch pedal is so light, the gearshifter gates are very vague, and the steering is super light with zero feedback.

On the end of the actuator arm above the gearbox where the cable attaches to, how far in does the thread sit?

I'm not sure, I'll have to have a look later today. What should I be looking for and what sort of issue do you think it may be?
Also, last night, I was driving up a steep hill in third gear and once I got to about 3500rpm the revs stuck there, not quite like a slipping clutch, but it didn't want to rev any more.
