Anyone tried their headunits ? Check em out here:

More and more players are supporting mp3 playback these days, and provided the unit you're talking about isn't a flash card player, yes it will play audio cd's (cda format) as well as ripped mp3 cds.

hahaha mp3 so cool :)

i can fit about 10 albumns on average (@ 192kbps) to a single CD

and seeing most albumns have so much crap on them if i cull that then i can put soooo much stuff on a single cd

and it shows the track info on the screen while its playing :)

Altho if some of the music companies have their way, soon most forms of digital extraction from cd won't work too well.

Eh.. so what. I still cant do standard audio extraction instead and that seems to still work as a backup. Just takes ten years to finish.

If you havent heard of this yet, check out:

Bris car sound? Dude, stop shopping there! hehehe they don't know squat unfortuneately... Some of those decks are very nice though, but spending $1000 on a head unit only to play crabby mp3's is beyond my contemplation...

Yeah, u have a point, but how often are mp3's recorded well? Unless you do that yourself... I personally have never heard a good mp3 before... And it is so obvious when u hear one, with the type of music I listen to anyways... With the more bass and treble music like dance/techno, it's harder to distinguish, but I hate them with a passion...

each to their own...

Each to their own but usually mp3 ripping programs achieve better compression by actually cutting down the frequency range in segments.

Say between 20000 and 22000, they might compress heavily at around the 21000hz level etc...

So usually, techno/dance music actually sounds worse than normal rock music because they tend to have extreme bass and treble ranges which are cut off.

One audio ripper famous for this is xing audio catalyst.

I have around 40 cd's and at least another 90gb of mps which I have recorded as backup from my own collections and also some downloads. I found that anything higher than 196 bitrate is excessive, and anything below 128 is rubbish. So I record at 196 to be safe.

Franhoffer have some whitepapers proving that mp3 compression in indectectable to sophisticated sound analysis devices when compared to the original recording.

So i guess that as long as you do the mp3 rip yourself and do it at a decent bitrate, you should be cool.

Dennis,

Are you serious that Pioneer are going to come out with an mp3/wma player? That would totally be awesome! I've been waiting ages for it. I've sold my car along with my DEH-4050 headunit and I bought the latest 6-cd stacker for it which I didn't get around to installing. Any idea when the pioneer mp3 player will be coming out?

Also, I'd have to say JVC and Pioneer are top of the range regarding head units. The sounds are very clear compared to the Sonys and Kenwoods I've heard and use to own.

1 more thing - I saw an ad in the trading post where I think RYDA are selling SONY MP3 players for $449 (hope thats right). Now thats totally cheap!

I was in JB today and they have the new $399 JVC MP3 player in stock, it sells for $369 i think?

And they have all the other new JVC MP3 Players inc. the KD-SX985 (the best bang-for-your-buck unit around I reckon) and the new Pioneer MP3 players (DEH-8450/7450 IIRC?)

REDSSS

yeah just had a look on pioneeraus website... the wma players are already in aus

the 7450 is MP3 only
the 8450 and 9450 are both MP3 and WMA

cool eh

WMA gets massive compression for the same quality... imagine how many songs u could fit on a cd :) hehe

im happy with my JVC deck tho so its all cool

Yeah, JB had all those new Pioneer ones. I should have gotten a price on the SX985, oh well.

A good site for mp3 car players is http://www.highwaymp3.com
it has all reviews for most units around /notspam :)

yeah, its okay, the only negatives I can see are
- it doesnt have 4V rca outs
- it is silver

Last years SH77, which is this models predecessor, had 4V outs, but didnt play mp3s. So its up to you as to which one you prefer.

i really want mp3
whats the difference between 4v preout and ??? preout?

thanks

i might go to JBs Hifi on the weekend and check out what deal they can do me.

Cheers,

the higher the voltage of the preout, the less of an impact noise (eg interference in the cables) has on your final sound. The preout voltage is only important if you are going to run amps.

If you want a mp3 player with higher preouts, you could go to JB and get last years SH99, which should be the same price as this unit, cause they are trying to get rid of last years stock.

Noise in the system sucks arse, so get a higher voltage on your preouts if you can.

But MP3 players rock, i want one.

Or if you have a decent amp that still allows low voltage input like rockford amps:

TOPAZ:
(U.S. Patent 5,751,823) (Tracking Operation Pre-Amplifier Zone) This circuit eliminates ground loops by referencing signal ground from the first component in the chain (usually the source unit). 80% of noise problems are created by ground loops. Now, with TOPAZ, we have eliminated 80% of your headaches

TRANS-ana:
(TRANSconductance Active Nodal Amplifier) A circuit that simplifies the input path allowing the signal to travel through the amplifier at a low voltage. TRANS-ana achieves current and voltage gain in a single stage, putting less circuitry between the listener and the music. Result: Better sound quality!

TRANS-nova:
(U.S. Patent 4,467,288) (TRANSconductance NOdal Voltage Amplifier) A proprietary circuit that simplifies the signal path of the amplifier, allowing the signal to travel through the amplifier at a low voltage. The result: Greater reliability, cleaner performance and exceptional musicality with the speed, durability and power of MOSFETs.

Its funny, but I get ground noise from my internal voice speaker from my alarm... I should really fix that one day.
