I know the fuel guage on the n14 pulsars is ment to be pretty dodgy but i think mine is wayyy off. Any n14 pulsar Q 2.0l would have a 50L tank. right??? I get 350km to MY full tank.

I fill up when the fuel light warning comes on and it only takes 30-35L!! Either

1. My tank is not 50L like the book says.
2. The fuel guage is way off and there is still 15L left when it says there is 0

I guess its not really a problem, just ones of those little things that piss you off after a while.

I am actually considering driving area until the petrol runs out just to see how much further it goes.

Anyone got any ideas?

thanks :)

Mmm.. I find it a bit dodgy but generally when it says empty and the light starts coming on I can fit about 40lt in it

its not a good idea to let your tank run to empty anyway.. cos then your fuel filter gets full of all the SHIT thats in the bottom of the tank :)

its just a gauge problem. mine usually comes on at 300-350 too, i can manage about 500, then fill up and still have a few litres left. unless yours is running like a dog or you flattrap it everywhere, you should get less than 10l/100kms.

Nah that is doing about 70% highway driving every week so i get about 390km off the 30-35L.

there is into about it on www.se-r.net - nissan issued an internal memo acknowledging the poor accuracy of it a while ago. it can be fixed, but it requires about US$120 worth of parts and a few hours of labour.. not really worth it imho :)

bretto although the light comes on just ignore it when I first had my pulsar q the fuel light came on at around 350km soon discovered that it still had a good 15-20ltrs of fuel left.

Still have yet to get this fixed, I ignore the light and when I reach around 450km ( 10-12 ltrs in the tank still) I then fill it up because as Splash has said its not good to run you tank empty.

I normally get a bit over 500 kms per full tank.

OK thanks. I might test it out this week, but have a mini jerry can full of petrol in the boot just in case :)

the only time its not good to run your take eampty is when you use dodgy fuel.

If u only run the good stuff IE 98Ron Ultimate u wont have to worry.

Now i perposly run the SSS down to nothing quite regually to make sure there is no crap in the tank.

The only damage you could posibly do is keep the motor "on" once you have run out. if u do this then the motor is still turning over and the spark plugs are firing... making all sorts of nice indents in the top of your pistons.

PS normally takes 50 or so to fiill from empty on a S2 SSS N15

Cheers
Shane.

actually, running your fuel tank dry will often destroy the fuel pump. you try starting the car with no fuel in it, the pump has nothing to pump and will burn itself out. this doesnt always happen, but the possibility is there.

Commode Door Drivers are doing this all the time. when they run thier tank dry, it costs about $100+ worth of parts in the way of a Fuel Pump and Sender Unit Seal.

If You run your tank dry in an N14, you'll be up for similar parts, but they'll cost you $300, which is how much it would cost for the new sender unit. The sender Unit and the Fuel Pump in the Pulsar are sold as one complete item, which is the $290 and the Seal is $10. You can't reuse the seal.

If you run your tank dry, and shag the pump, The good side is that you get to replace the sender Unit, so your gauge will display the correct level.

I've not delivered any Pulsar Fuel Pump/Sender Unit/ Seal combinations, but I deliver 1 or 2 Commode Door Fuel Pump/Seal cominations a week. Even considering the ratio of Commies to Pulsars on the road, that still works out that Pulsar drivers are smarter than Holden Drivers.:)

The reason why Pulsar Parts are more expensive than Holden Parts is that back in the seventies, the Govt. put huge Tariffs on Asian Cars. Nissan and Toyota did a Deal where they would pay no Tariffs on Cars, but would pay triple tariffs on Parts.

I have this identical problem, I just figure my tank is only 35litre, as that's the max I have ever filled it, and I have purposely ran it as dry as I can, however I run it on the orange light for days, and finally loose my nerve and fill up, no more then 35l

Also when filling the tank, and can fuel pissing out, and when I jump in the car the needle doesn't sit on the exact "Full" mark, its always down little.

Hmm,

Well the most i ever got into my tank (after running a while on the fuel light) is 49.2 litres and this wasn't filling it to the top of the tube.

With my N13 Q i had the same problem.

I just got an auto elect to fix it, a couple said i will need a new fule sender unit but this one guy he said it's common in the n13 and he just took the dash out and tack'd some points and thats it

I got a problem with my 92 Ti,the fuel guage reads a good 1/4 of a tank out ! I have had the guages checked and they were fine took it to Nissan and they quoted $500 to fix ! Autoleaders quoted $480 to do it and coz im a bit inept when it comes to mechanicals they can do it. But it really sux when your speedo drops out like mine has and you can no longer judge distance off the tank. By the way I get about 500 - 600 km off a tank on the highway/light traffic. :)

you should hear that switch the ignition to on, its the fuel pump priming the fuel lines. the fuel pump is under the rear seats of the N14. you may hear it when stopped, but i cant hear anything over the exhaust :P

its air getting sucked into the tank after you've driven for a while and fuel gets sucked out... the pressure needs to equalise..

I've noticed a hummin noise lately from the back of my car but only when the stereo is turned down.
Is the fuel pump about to shit itself ? touchwood lol

The hum sounds like a fuel pump sound but the TWANG TWANG sounds scary????????
yeah and we have the same problem with our gauge we even replace the sender and it still did it!!!!:thwap:

another possibility is that the springs are settlings. do you have lowered springs? often, youll hear a long lowish squeal form the back after driving, its one of the springs slowly sliding down again. nothing to really be worried about.

Bio,Its just a constant hum or drum, noticeable at about 60 km all the way up to 100-110 kmh.I know my muffler is fuct but it doesnt change with the revs. The rear wheels or tyres perhaps ??
I have hit some unavoidable potholes and shit on the arterial road.
thanx
