Remove them and find out. But I can't imagine you getting an extra second off your quarter mile by removing them.
Hey guys,
Just wondering what these following pieces are on the Drivers Side N13 Engine Mount. Can they be removed?
As you can see in the image:
(1) features no purpose in strengthening the mount socket as the join for the socket is opposite the weight/strapping. The only think that makes me question this one is I have seen it on Toyota Corollas aswell.
(2) features no purpose in a washer as on the other side of the mount, the bolt head doesn't even have a washer, and even if it were a washer its complete over kill! If they were removed an appropriate sized washer would be used on both sides and a shorter bolt obtained
View 1 - Selected
View 1 - Normal
View 2 - No washer under the bolt head!?
Let me know what you think!
Cheers

Haha yea, but everything adds up...
Does anyone know if this may cause engineering issues (eg. potentially weaken the mount)?
It all depends on how well you remove them. Can you cut it without damaging the part you want to keep?
They only dampen harmonics, from what I can tell. I used to drive an N13 and one didn't have them, but it did have a rubber packer inside the mount.

Ohok, so do you think both are for the dampening, as the stripping welded to the bushing socket is fixed to the chassis)?
Is the rubber pucker featured on the mount in the pics (they sit either side of the bushing socket?)?
The rubber in my mount was a tongue that filled the holes and virtually made it solid.

Ah I see. Iam looking at slightly stiffer more solid bushings, do you think that this will help with the harmonics if I remove the strapping and oversize washer?
I'm not sure. I have solid urethane mounts and can't tell if I get harmonics!!
